2FA Tax

What is 2FA

"2FA" stands for two factor authentication. It is the process of using an external tool to add another layer of authentication for a user. As defined by Authy, the process for 2FA is important because :

...a potential compromise of just one of these factors won’t unlock the account. So, even if your password is stolen or your phone is lost, the chances of a someone else having your second-factor information is highly unlikely. Looking at it from another angle, if a consumer uses 2FA correctly, websites and apps can be more confident of the user’s identity, and unlock the account.

Why is charging for 2FA a bad move?

2FA helps protect accounts. If companies claim to “take your security seriously”, then all types of 2FA should be available as a free feature for all users.
